I, Daniel Blake is a modern drama film released in 2016 that tackles important societal issues of class and the effect this has on various types of people. The film approaches it in a sensitive way, by following Daniel Blake as he is faced with unemployment and denial of Support allowances after being declared unfit to work by his doctor.

The film is extremely well-researched and as a result, is shockingly accurate which makes the realism behind the story even more devastating. To add to Blakes's story, he also meets a struggling mother of two children who is driven to turn to prostitution in an effort to take care of her children. Both storylines of the characters being so realistic really put into perspective for me how much Britain's welfare system needs improving and how much needs to be changed.

Not only do I think the issues presented are extremely important in this film, but I also think the way it is written and directed supports how well it comes across. Not only is the writing realistic, but I also believe the actors did an incredible job to show how it can affect people and also made the story feel much more authentic and 'real'. Despite being fiction, it was produced in a way I could've believed it was a documentary- and I think this made it far more impactful to make a point to society.

Overall, despite this film not being something I would usually watch, I have the utmost respect for it and to me, it stands as one of the most important and impactful films I have watched yet. it is definitely a film I would recommend to anyone and I believe everyone should watch it to see the unfair effects of dealing with unemployment in Britain.
